Bupleurum Griffiti/Green Gold (Bupleurum rotundifolium)

Griffiti is a
florist’s favourite and a true workhorse in the cutting garden. Bright chartreuse foliage and airy blooms add elegance and texture to bouquets. Its delicate 2½" yellow-lime green flowers sit atop long, wiry stems with coin-like leaves that naturally branch. A standout in garden beds and borders.

Bupleurum is a classic filler that pairs beautifully with just about anything. Deer resistant and loved by pollinators. Harvest when blooms just begin to open for the longest vase life. It also makes a unique dried flower. Also known as Thoroughwax and Hare’s Ear.

HOW TO GROW:
Direct Sowing (recommended): Bupleurum is best grown from seed sown directly into the garden, as it dislikes root disturbance. Sow seeds in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Plant seeds ¼" deep and cover lightly with soil. Thin seedlings to a final spacing of 6–12" apart. In areas with mild winters, you can also sow in late fall for earlier blooms the following spring.

Transplanting (not recommended): Transplanting is not ideal for Bupleurum. If you must start indoors, sow seeds in deep, individual pots 4–6 weeks before the last frost to minimize root disturbance during transplanting.

Pinching: Pinching is not necessary for Bupleurum.

Soil Preference and Watering: Bupleurum prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Keep the soil consistently moist during germination and establishment. Once mature, it is relatively drought-tolerant.

Fertilizing: Fertilizing is not required for Bupleurum. It performs best in average to lean soil.

Harvesting: Bupleurum is primarily used as a foliage and filler plant for bouquets. Harvest stems when the umbels (flower clusters) are fully open.
