Snowflake Baby’s Breath (Gypsophila paniculata)
Whispers of white, spun into airy sprays—Gypsophila ‘Snowflake’ brings an ethereal softness to any garden. Its wiry, branching stems carry semi-double to double white blossoms, creating clouds of delicate blooms that hover over foliage. Standing 24–36 in tall, the plant’s graceful structure blends seamlessly into cottage borders, cutting gardens, and romantic perennial compositions.
This variety shines in both fresh and dried arrangements. The fine, skeletal stems are perfect as a background or filler, yet the sheer abundance of petite blooms makes it more than just a supporting player. In full sun and well-drained soil, it rewards gardeners with a long summer display and easy care. Let it mingle with dusky lavender salvias or pale pink peonies for a palette of soft contrast, or plant it beside silvery artemisia to enhance the white tones.

HOW TO GROW:
Direct Seeding (recommended): Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost. Plant seeds 3 mm (⅛") deep and barely cover with soil. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination.
Indoor Sowing (alternative): Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant into cell packs or larger containers when the first true leaves appear. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7–10 days before transplanting outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
Pinching: Pinching is not necessary for Baby's Breath.
Succession Sowing: To ensure a continuous supply of blooms throughout the season, sow every 2 weeks throughout the summer.
Soil Preference and Watering: Baby's Breath prefers full sun and requires well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. It is drought-tolerant once established and does not perform well in overly wet conditions.
Fertilizing: Fertilizing is not required for Baby's Breath. It performs best in average to lean soil.
Harvesting: For bouquets, harvest stems when the flowers are fully open. To dry, hang bunches upside down in a dark, well-ventilated area for 2–3 weeks.
