Ageratum Timeless Mix (Ageratum houstonianum)

Timeless Mix is a classic garden favourite, treasured for its soft, fluffy clusters of tiny flowers that bring a delicate texture to mixed bouquets and garden beds alike. This charming blend offers a harmonious palette of red, pink, blue, and white blooms—each 1 to 2 inches across—creating a gentle cloud of colour that complements any floral arrangement beautifully.

Known also as Flossflower, ageratum attracts bees and butterflies, inviting lively pollinators to the garden and adding movement and life to outdoor spaces. Its long-lasting blooms make it perfect for cutting and container gardening, while successive sowings from early summer through frost ensure a continual display of charm and colour.

Whether nestled among bold blooms or filling gaps with soft pastel hues, Timeless Mix adds rustic elegance and subtle whimsy to both bouquets and borders.

HOW TO GROW:

Transplanting (recommended): Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your average last frost date. Do not cover seeds, as light is required for germination. Bottom water or mist gently to avoid displacing the tiny seeds with soil. Once the first true leaves appear, transplant the seedlings into cell packs or larger containers. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7–10 days before transplanting them outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.

Direct Seeding (not recommended): Direct seeding is generally not recommended for ageratum, as starting indoors gives you a much better success rate and an earlier, more uniform bloom time.

Pinching and Support:
No pinching or support is required for ageratum, as it naturally forms a mounded, compact shape. Deadheading spent flowers is not necessary, but can tidy up the plants and encourage a prolonged bloom.

Soil Preference and Watering: Ageratum thrives in full sun to part shade and requires well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during hot, dry weather. Ageratum does not tolerate drought well

Fertilizing:
Ageratum benefits from regular feeding. Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks, or a slow-release granular fertilizer at the time of planting.

Harvesting: For bouquets or arrangements, harvest ageratum when the flowers are fully open. Cut stems in the early morning or late evening and immediately place them in water to prevent wilting.
