Centaurea are also known as Bachelor's Buttons, and Cornflowers. These familiar, charming, beautifully-coloured pompoms on fuzzy grey stems, are well loved by humans and attractive to beneficial hover-flies. Cornflowers are highly attractive to pollinators and beneficial insects like Syrphid flies. The flowers are edible, and the plants are drought resistant for xeriscaping. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the bloom period, and to keep plants looking tidy.

Transplant: Sow 3-4 weeks before last frost. Transplant into cell packs or larger containers when the first true leaves appear. Grow at 10-12°C during the night for several weeks to develop a root ball.
