Bunny Tails (Lagurus ovatus)
A charming ornamental grass, beloved for its soft, fluffy seed heads that gently sway in the breeze. This compact plant has elongated heads that turn off-white and soften as they age, resembling tiny bunny tails. An excellent choice for fresh or dried arrangements, it adds texture and whimsy to garden beds, containers, and cut flower bouquets. It can also be dyed to match your décor. Thrives in full sun and well-drained soil.
Bunny Tails is an annual in most regions but may overwinter in mild climates. Hardy to Zone 8. In cooler Canadian zones, grow it as a warm-season annual—it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Perfect for kids' gardens, cottage borders, and drying for everlasting displays! Also known as Hare's Tail.

HOW TO GROW:
Transplant (recommended): Start seeds indoors 5–7 weeks before your last expected frost date. Lightly press seeds into the surface of the soil, as they require light to germinate. Bottom water or mist gently to avoid displacing the seeds. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions before transplanting them outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.
Direct Sowing (alternative): Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost, but this method is only recommended for warm climates with a long growing season.
Pinching: No pinching is needed, as Bunny Tails naturally forms tidy, compact clumps with minimal effort.
Soil Preference and Watering: Bunny Tails prefers full sun and requires well-drained soil. Keep the soil consistently moist during germination and establishment. Once mature, it is a drought-tolerant grass that performs best in lean soil.
Fertilizing: Fertilizing is not required for Bunny Tails.
Harvesting: Allow the seed heads to fully mature and dry on the plant for harvest. Cut the stems and bundle them together to hang upside down in a well-ventilated area until completely dry.
