Nicotiana 'Bronze Queen'

A truly unique and elegant flowering tobacco, Bronze Queen Nicotiana (Nicotiana langsdorffii) produces bell-shaped blooms in a rich, chocolate-plum hue that shift subtly in the light. These delicate flowers are held on vibrant green stems, creating striking contrast and movement in both garden beds and cut flower arrangements.

Plants bloom continuously throughout the season if regularly deadheaded or cut back, and they’re a favourite of hummingbirds and pollinators. Though the blooms are relatively fragile with a vase life of 5–7 days, they add a whimsical, airy touch to fresh bouquets.

HOW TO GROW:
Transplant (Recommended): Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Sow on the surface of the soil—do not cover, as light is required for germination. Keep soil moist with misting or bottom watering and maintain a warm temperature of 20–24°C. Germination typically occurs in 10–14 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into individual pots. Harden off carefully and transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and rich, well-drained soil.

Direct sowing is possible after frost in mild climates but may delay bloom time. Pinching is not necessary, but removing spent flowers (deadheading) will encourage continued blooming. Taller varieties may benefit from staking in windy areas. Nicotiana is known for its evening fragrance and is attractive to moths and pollinators.
