Blue Showers Forget-Me-Not (Cynoglossum amabile)

Blue Showers is a fast-growing annual Chinese Forget-Me-Not, prized for its vivid indigo-blue blooms that carpet tall, elegant stems in colour and texture. Unlike traditional biennials, it begins flowering just three months from sowing, offering a delightful rush of charm in cottage-style borders, wildflower mixes, or romantic cutting gardens. Its small, star-shaped flowers provide an airy, nostalgic quality that works beautifully as a filler in both fresh and dried bouquets.

Highly productive and well-branched, Blue Showers yields abundant stems from compact plantings, making it ideal for cut flowers. Nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other pollinators, enriching the garden ecosystem. Also known as Hound’s Tongue, Amethyst Forget-Me-Not, or Chinese Hound’s Tongue, this annual may self-sow under favourable conditions, returning delicate sprays of blue charm year after year.

HOW TO GROW:
Transplant (recommended): Sow seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before your average last frost date. Cover seeds lightly. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7–10 days before transplanting outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.

Direct Seed (alternative): Sow seeds directly into the garden as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring. Cover seeds lightly. Thin as needed once the first true leaves appear.

Pinching: Pinching is not necessary for Chinese Forget-Me-Not.

Soil Preference and Watering: Chinese Forget-Me-Not prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It performs best in cool weather with consistent moisture.

Fertilizing: Fertilizing is not required for Chinese Forget-Me-Not. It performs best in average to lean soil.

Harvesting: For bouquets, harvest stems when the flowers are fully open. To prevent heavy self-seeding, cut spent seed heads after flowering, unless a naturalized look is desired.
