Orange Flash Calendula (Calendula officinalis 'Orange Flash')

Peachy petals kissed with a hint of apricot and brushed with bronze on the undersides give Orange Flash a warm, vintage glow. Blooming steadily all summer, it’s as charming in garden beds as it is spilling from containers. This variety offers a uniform habit and reliable performance, with timing and colour comparable to the much-loved Triangle Flashback. Easy to grow—simply sow and enjoy—Orange Flash is a garden staple for both beauty and utility.

Calendulas are among the quickest blooms from seed, often flowering in just two months. Also known as English Marigold or Pot Marigold, they draw in pollinators and other beneficial insects. The petals are edible, lending colour to salads, and can be used for natural dyeing, skincare, or medicinal infusions.

Pairs beautifully with Strawberry Blonde and Pink Surprise calendulas for a romantic, sunset-inspired palette, or with Lemonade cosmos for a soft, glowing contrast.

HOW TO GROW:
Direct Seed (recommended): Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost. For continuous blooms, make 2–3 successive sowings 2–3 weeks apart, from summer through to heavy frost.

Transplant (alternative): Start seeds indoors 4–5 weeks before the last frost. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions before transplanting outdoors after the last frost.

Pinching: Pinching the tops of young plants can encourage a bushier habit and more blooms.

Soil Preference and Watering: Calendula prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It is very adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions. Water consistently, but avoid overwatering.

Fertilizing: Fertilizing is not required for Calendula. It performs best in average to lean soil.

Harvesting: Harvest calendula flowers when they are fully open. The petals are edible and can be used to garnish salads or other dishes.

Other Tips: Calendula may self-seed if allowed to mature at season’s end.
