Winged Everlasting (Ammobium alatum)

Winged Everlasting. Bright green mounds of finely textured foliage give rise to an abundance of stiff, upright stems crowned with charming star-like, papery white blossoms. These delicate blooms, reminiscent of miniature strawflowers, open gently to reveal sunny yellow centres that brighten any garden nook or bouquet. With a cheerful, wildflower spirit, Winged Everlasting brings a rustic freshness to mixed floral arrangements, adding texture and lightness with its crisp, everlasting petals.

Perfect companions include soft blue cornflowers, lavender sprigs, or pale pink cosmos—together creating bouquets that feel effortlessly natural and whimsically romantic.

A garden favourite for those who cherish blooms that endure, capturing the essence of summer’s light in every stem.

DETAILS:

QTY: 100

TYPE: Tender Perennial

SITE: Full Sun

SEED DEPTH: Barely Cover

HEIGHT: 20 - 26"

MATURITY: 70 - 80 Days

SPACING: 9"

PINCH: No

HOW TO GROW:
Transplanting (recommended): Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your average last frost date. Do not cover seeds, as light is required for germination. Bottom water or mist gently to avoid displacing the tiny seeds with soil. Once the first true leaves appear, transplant the seedlings into cell packs or larger containers. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7–10 days before transplanting outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.

Direct Seeding (alternative): Sow seeds directly outdoors after your last frost date, once the soil has warmed. Gently press the seeds into the soil surface and do not cover. Thin seedlings to a final spacing of 6–9" apart once they are a few inches tall.

Pinching and Support: Pinching is not necessary for Ammobium, as it naturally forms a tidy, bushy plant. No support is typically needed.

Soil Preference and Watering: Ammobium thrives in full sun and requires well-drained soil. It is very tolerant of poor, sandy soils and is highly drought-tolerant once established. Overly rich soil or too much water can lead to leggy, floppy grow.

Fertilizing: Fertilizing is not required for Ammobium. It performs best in lean soil.

Harvesting:
For bouquets and drying, harvest stems when the flower heads are fully open but before the centers turn yellow. Cut the stems and hang bunches upside down in a dark, well-ventilated area for 2–3 weeks until completely dry.
